2010

January 4
2010 has arrived and, with it, a migraine and enough tension in my neck, shoulders, and spine to mangle and contort my almost 29-year-old body into that of an arthritic, wheelchair-ridden 90-year-old.

Breathe, slowly.
Rest, deeply.
Release, gently
the tension, pain,
cumulating pressure & toxic knots.
I curl into a ball
feeling knots form
and twist and wrench
as if to offer a big
“screw you”
to my own body.

New Year’s Resolution: Slow down. Rest. Play. Simplicity, simplicity, simplicity - beginning tonight with a bowl of hot homemade soup, aromatherapy via homemade deep moisturizing mask, and possibly a bit of slow, relaxing yoga over candlelight.

I posted the recipe to this amazing facial mask last year, but here’s an improved version of it for those of you who might want to try it this year. (If you do, let me know how you like it.)

1 Tbsp. honey
2 Tbsp. ground barley (You can buy whole barley at most health food stores and grind it in a coffee grinder)
3 Tbsp. whole milk
2 drops essential oil (e.g., lavender oil) (*optional)

Mix ingredients well. Massage gently into face. Allow mask to sit on face for 8-12 minutes. Rinse. Smile at your beautiful, thankful face in the mirror. Rest. (Store remaining mixture in refrigerator and repeat application 3-5 times/week).
