release

Despite every ache within me,
I let you go
again and again.

Instead of letting you go,
I used to slash my wrists,
attempting to numb the pain.

I know now that
suicide isn’t necessary
to letting you go.

But loneliness is.
And I’m not afraid
of loneliness anymore.

Unfulfilled desire
swells within me
and freedom.

Freedom
to embrace my longing
and release us both from

my delusions of control.
